Meet the panelist

We will hear from three passionate professions, Kate Kamoshita of Learning Compass, Ariana Ikeda of Retreat Tokyo Counseling Center, and Melissa Uchiyama of Tokyo Kids Write.

Melissa Uchiyama

Writing Instructor and Educator

Melissa has been an educator for over twenty-years, working in the classroom and supporting learners at every stage. She has been a literacy coach and writing specialist to young people at varying ages, from emerging readers and writers to high schoolers desiring individual writing support. Melissa leads creative vacation writing camps and workshops, working with award-winning authors in order to ignite a life-long love of reading and writing in young people. She also hosts young Japanese and International writers and readers every Sunday through an initiative called The Sunday Club. Each of her writing events exists to champion young people and grow their skills, voice, and confidence. She is also a mother to three curious and funny bilingual children.

Ariana Ikeda

Child and Family Therapist

Ariana is a licensed therapist in Japan and has many certificates in various therapy techniques. She is passionate about helping youth grow up with positive mental image and help them strive.

Kate Kamoshita , M.A.

ADHD Educator

Kate Kamoshita is a professional educator and ADHD advocate. She is based in Tokyo and working to spread alternative educational routes and promote neurodiversity acceptance. Kate was diagnosed with ADHD at 34 and created Learning Compass to help people better understand and work with their brains. AWARENESS + EDUCATION = ACCEPTANCE
